DECATUR, Ill. – Millikin University's College of Fine Arts and School of Art and Creative Media present the 2024 Images in Motion Film Festival on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 6-9 p.m. at Kaeuper Hall in the Perkinson Music Center on Millikin’s campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Millikin's Images in Motion Film Festival is an exciting community event designed to showcase the skills of Millikin animators and filmmakers as we celebrate student films created over the last two years. Awards will be given for Best Talent, Best Cinematographer, Best Editor, Best Writer, Best Director, and Best in Show.
This year's guest judge and awards presenter is Peter Hawley, Director of the Illinois Film Office.
"This is a great opportunity for students to have their work evaluated by someone of the stature of Peter Hawley, the Director of the Illinois Film Office,” said Assistant Professor in the School of Art & Creative Media and Interim Coordinator of Creative Media Eric Hector. “It is also a wonderful chance to introduce Millikin and the Decatur Area in general to Mr. Hawley so he can see firsthand the potential we have to offer in terms of downstate movie production."
Hawley has been an Illinois-based filmmaker for more than 30 years. He wrote and directed the film “Victimless Crimes” and has directed and produced numerous television commercials, music videos, and award-winning documentary films. He taught at Columbia College Chicago beginning in 1996. In 2007, he was one of the original faculty members at Flashpoint Chicago and was named Dean in 2014. In 2016, he became Dean of Columbia College Hollywood, merging the two campuses. Hawley began teaching at Loyola University Chicago in 2017. On May 1, 2019, he became the director of the Illinois Film Office.
This program is partially supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Illinois Arts Council, and the Decatur Area Arts Council, with Special Thanks to Liaison Technology Group.
