Admission Requirements
BSN Admission and Progression
Students are directly admitted to the BSN program at Millikin University as students who wish to complete a baccalaureate nursing degree in order to be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX).
Admission
Traditional BSN students are admitted directly to the School of Nursing as freshmen or as transfer students. Direct admission to the School of Nursing requires a composite ACT of 20 or equivalent SAT performance, and strong performance on high school science and math coursework. Acceptance of internal and external transfer students into the nursing major will be made based on academic progress and space availability.
Progression
Each student admitted to the nursing major is guaranteed a space in the major as long as the student makes scheduled academic progress as defined below.
To enroll in the first nursing courses NU 202 and NU203, the student must:
- Maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 2.50;
- Earn a grade of C- or better in all courses required for the major;
- Have earned a grade of C- or better in at least 3 out of 4 of the following science prerequisites (CH 203/205, BI 206, BI 207, BI 230);
- Be co-enrolled or previously earned a C- or better in the 4th science pre-requisite course;
- Meet health standards required by the School of Nursing and affiliating agencies;
- Display appropriate professional behavior.
To continue to the junior and senior year in nursing, the student must:
- Maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 2.50;
- Maintain a Nursing GPA of at least 2.0;
- Earn a grade of C- or better in all courses required for the major;
- Have earned a grade of C- or better in all courses required for the major CH 203/205, BI 206, BI 207, BI 230, PS 130, PS 240 (or NU 250), and PS 201 (or MA 130);
- Meet health standards required by the School of Nursing and affiliating agencies;
- Display appropriate professional behavior; and
- Progress in a timely manner

Do I have to apply to the School of Nursing once I've been admitted to Millikin?
- No. Our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is a "DIRECT ADMIT" for freshmen students who meet admission requirements.
What are the admission requirements to the BSN program?
- ACT score of 20 or above or equivalent SAT score
- Strong performance in high school science and math coursework
Can you play a sport while being enrolled as a nursing student?
- Absolutely, yes! Millikin has 19 men's and women's NCAA Div. III sports that you can join.
Does the program accept transfer students?
- Yes. Internal and external transfer students are accepted based on academic progress and space availability. Individualized elements of plan of study will be directed by School of Nursing faculty advisors.
