DECATUR, Ill. — For senior Megan Dunscomb, Millikin University has been more than a college experience — it’s been a place to say “yes,” step outside her comfort zone and grow into a leader.
A Management and Digital Media Marketing double major from Forsyth, Ill., Dunscomb’s connection to Millikin runs deep. Counting both parents and several family members as Big Blue alumni, her decision to attend felt natural, but her impact on campus has been uniquely her own.
“I always heard such positive things about Millikin growing up,” Dunscomb said. “But once I got here, it became my own experience. I’ve been able to make the most of every opportunity.”
A campus leader driven by purpose
Dunscomb quickly immersed herself in campus life, building a resume that reflects both leadership and service. As president of Delta Delta Delta (Tri Delta), she leads a chapter of approximately 45 members, helping guide its continued growth and strengthening its campus presence.
“We’ve worked really hard to make a positive impact and leave the organization better than we found it,” she said. “It’s been such a rewarding experience to lead a group of women who are all working toward the same goals.”
Under her leadership, the chapter continues its longstanding philanthropic commitment to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, including signature events like Delta House of Pancakes (DHOP), which raises funds for children and families in need.
Beyond Greek life, Dunscomb has also served as a Student Experience Ambassador (SEA), mentoring first-year students as they transition to college life — a role she describes as one of her most meaningful experiences.
“I loved being able to connect with freshmen and help them find their place,” she said. “Seeing them grow and knowing you played a small role in that is incredibly fulfilling.”
Creating connections that matter
Dunscomb’s involvement extends to serving as a campus tour guide, where she often reconnects with prospective students who later choose Millikin.
“One of my favorite moments is when students come up to me during Welcome Week and say, ‘You were my tour guide,’” she said. “It’s really special to know you helped influence their decision.”
Through those interactions, she has become a strong advocate for Millikin’s Performance Learning approach and close-knit campus environment.
“You’re not just a number here,” she said. “Your professors know you, support you and genuinely want to see you succeed.”
Dunscomb’s commitment to campus involvement and leadership has not gone unnoticed. As a recipient of Millikin’s Associates Scholarship, she uses that honor as motivation rather than milestones.
“It’s not just about the financial support — it’s knowing that people believe in you,” Dunscomb said. “That recognition pushes me to keep working hard and making the most of my experience.”

Saying “yes” to every opportunity
Looking back on her college career, Dunscomb credits her growth to one simple mindset: saying yes.
“I came in with the idea that I would try everything I could,” she said. “That mindset has led me to opportunities, relationships and experiences I never would have had otherwise.”
She encourages prospective students to embrace that same approach — even when it feels uncomfortable.
“College is going to push you out of your comfort zone, but that’s where the growth happens,” she said. “Talk to new people, get involved early and trust your professors — they want you to succeed.”
As graduation approaches, Dunscomb reflects on her time at Millikin with pride and gratitude. While she admits there will be mixed emotions on commencement day, she feels confident in what lies ahead.
“I think I’ll feel proud,” she said. “I’ve put a lot into my time here, and I’m excited to see where it leads.”
Dunscomb plans to remain in the Decatur area after graduation, pursuing a career in sales or a people-focused role that allows her to build relationships and continue making an impact.
“Millikin helped me see the value of this community,” she said. “I’m excited to stay and be part of it.”
