Much of the equipment in the Millikin Makers' Studio uses specialized software. All of the options we have provided here are either open source and/or free for students, faculty, and staff to download.
Carvey CNC Router
Easel: Easel is made by Inventables, makers of the Carvey, for use with the machine. You'll need to create an Inventables account to use this web-based program.
Glowforge Laser Cutter and Engraver
glowforge: Please note that, in order to use the glowforge software, you first need an email invitation from Professor Bicicchi. Please contact her to get set up at rbicicchi@millikin.edu.
Silhouette Cameo
Silhouette Studio: Silouhette makes the software for their Cameo machine available for download. Make sure to download the current version (not the beta version) of Silhouette Studio. You can also download Silhouette Studio Mobile from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
3D Printers
For 3D printing, you'll need two pieces of software - one for designing and one for actually printing the object (called a Slicer).
Designing
Tinkercad: Are you a beginner? Start here. Tinkercad works by having you combine and merge pre-existing simple shapes.
Fusion 360: 3D CAM/CAD software from Autodesk, one of the industry leaders in design software. Note: You MUST register with your millikin.edu email address to access the free version educational license for Fusion 360. Personal emails (e.g. gmail, comcast, yahoo) will not work.
SketchUp: Originally developed by Google, SketchUp is used by a vareity of people, including architects, designers, builders, makers and engineers
Ready-Made Objects
If you don't want to design your own objects, you can find several repositories of online objects available for download. Here are some of our favorites. Whenever you want to print someone else's object, make sure you have permission to do so! The websites below encourage sharing of files. Keep in mind that not everything you find on these sites will be appropriate (in terms of size, shape, materials, or content) for printing on our equipment.
Slicer (Works for both the Ultimaker 2+ and Monoprice Mini)
