DECATUR, Ill. – The Millikin University community gathered again on Thursday, April 25, for the annual Honors Convocation and Distinguished Faculty Lecture at Kirkland Fines Arts Center to honor student and faculty accomplishments as the 2023-24 academic year approaches its conclusion.
“The Honors Convocation constitutes a special moment in Millikin's academic year, when we connect as a community to honor achievement in teaching and learning and excellence in all aspects of Millikin life, inside and outside the classroom,” Millikin President Jim Reynolds said. “This occasion celebrates the many exceptional achievements made at our University, and we commemorate the inspiring work and scholarship our students and faculty have created.”
Over 90 awards were presented to Millikin students and faculty who were honored for their commitment to academic excellence. Many awards have been created to distinguish alums from Millikin's past.
Each year, the Millikin faculty vote to select one of their own as the Distinguished Faculty Lecturer. This year's Distinguished Faculty Lecturer was Dr. Carrie Trimble, Undergraduate Director of the Tabor School of Business and Associate Professor of Marketing. Dr. Trimble’s lecture was titled “Feeling Successful When Vibes Aren’t Enough.”
Among the awards is the Scovill Prize, the most coveted recognition of the Honors Convocation. Scovill Prize winners are selected based on high academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, service, and scholarship. This year, eight students were named Scovill Prize recipients:

• Helena Hashimoto, Junior, Philosophy & Communication, minoring in Organizational Leadership & Theatre
• Kelsey Jacobs, Junior, Psychology, with a concentration in Clinical Psychology and a minor in Biology
• Kendra Jellison, Junior, Music Education with an Instrumental emphasis
• Rebekah Leipold, Senior, Theatre and Performance Studies
• Abigail Mendoza, Junior, Design and Production, with an emphasis in Technical Direction
• Maggie Schrage, Junior, Political Science & Philosophy
• Olivia Swords, Junior, English, History, and Philosophy on a Pre-Law track
