Richard Allinson, Class of 1959

Richard was born on September 27, 1933 in Ft. Worth, Texas. After his father and one stepfather, he was adopted by Orville D. Allinson when he was eight years old. He became an Army brat during WWII and lived in five separate state-side locations. He sang in high school choirs, church choirs; sang solos in church and oversaw Church Young People's programs. He was a veteran of the Korean War and in 1959, graduated from Millikin University thanks to the GI Bill. He was a three-year letterman at shortstop on the university baseball team and played as the number one man on the university golf team. He maintained a two handicap in golf and won trophies over three decades. He read a phrase in his early life that became his motto, "Behold the turtle, he makes progress only when he sticks his neck out".
