Ellen was born on February 25, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Eugene and Elizabeth (Hart) Loughrin. She was called to the ministry and was affiliated with the East Ohio Conference of United Methodist Church. She had served churches in Zanesville, Utica, Galena, Fredericktown, Chippewa Lake, Cambridge, Braceville and Bucyrus, Ohio.
In 1969, Ellen earned a music degree in organ/piano from Millikin University in Decatur, IL. She taught grade school music classes for two years before leaving for New Jersey to finish her master’s degree from Princeton Seminary in 1976. Her love of music lead to publishing several Choral music selections in the 1990’s.
