Merton Ferguson August 4, 1942 - October 28, 2024
DECATUR, IL - Merton "Mert" Ferguson, 82, of Eureka, MO, formerly of Decatur, IL, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, in his home surrounded by his family.
Mert was born August 4, 1942, in Decatur, IL, the son of John McAllister and Cleone (Ferguson) Ferguson. After graduating MacArthur High School in 1960, and Millikin University in 1964, he returned to MacArthur where he coached football and wrestling and taught physical education and driver's ed. He married, Mary Lou Fugate, on August 8, 1970. Mert earned his MS from Illinois State University. He served in administrative roles and later became athletic coordinator for Decatur Public Schools. He was also a corporate pilot for ADM and retired as the pilot for Investment Planners. He had a passion for sports, flying, raising horses, and fulfilling his role as Papa. Mert was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
