Matt graduated from Galesburg Sr. High School and Millikin University. Matt also earned an MBA degree from Illinois State University. Matt loved sports and was active with football, basketball and swimming in high school and continued playing football in college.
Matt's spinal cord injury in 1982 led him on an amazing 40-year journey where he never met a stranger and faced every challenge with a positive attitude and courage.
Matt enjoyed being outdoors whether it was rolling 10 miles a day or boating on Lake Springfield. One of Matt's favorite vacations spots was Fort Myers Beach where he even parasailed.
Matt retired from the State of Illinois with over 20 years of service. Matt was an advocate for the rights of people with disabilities and helped anyone he could.
