Lora attended District 186 grade schools and received her high school diploma from Ursuline Academy in 1978 with high honors. She graduated in 1984 from Milliken University in Decatur, Illinois, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
Lora was musically talented and able to play just about any instrument but enjoyed guitar the most. She played the flute in the Grant Middle School band and bass guitar in high school and college. She was a member of the Millikin Jazz Band and performed in South America.
As a Registered Nurse, she held various positions in Springfield and Decatur, at hospitals and medical facilities ranging from floor nurse to home health care to Director of Nursing, and most recently as a case manager. She specialized in geriatric care.
