Karen was a graduate of Alton Senior High School, class of 1974. She then went on to obtain her degree from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, and proceeded to nursing school and acquired her RN license. She loved working with children and specialized in pediatric psychiatric nursing. She worked tirelessly in this field for many, many years. Karen also loved animals and had a number of dearly loved pets over the years. Karen is survived by her mother, Betty Veit; two sisters, Peggy Shaffer (Blaine) and Melissa Burns (Roy); and her son, Ian Shinn, of whom she was exceedingly proud.
