Halloween Percussion Ensemble Celebrates 20 Years at Millikin University with Concerts October 29 and 30

Millikin University’s School of Music to celebrate milestone anniversary for Halloween Percussion Ensemble at Albert Taylor Theatre

Halloween Percussion

DECATUR, Ill.—The Millikin University Percussion Ensemble will perform their annual Halloween concerts Oct. 29-30, 2026.

These all-ages, family-friendly events will take place in the infamously haunted Albert Taylor Theatre on the campus of Millikin University. Albert Taylor Theatre is known as the home of the ghostly Rail Girl, a young girl who haunts the balcony, disturbing the lights and props for any show unless the crew leaves out three pieces of candy.

The Millikin University Percussion Ensemble is one of the finest music organizations on campus. The Halloween concert is its signature event, much like Vespers is for the Millikin choirs. This year’s program includes spooky percussion pieces such as “The Wolf and the Seven Kids” by Chicago-based composer Michelle Isaac and “Doomsday Machine” by Michael Burritt, as well as entertaining novelty pieces “Nocturne” by Mattias Wettl and “Just Buckets” by Brian Justison, Professor and Director of the School of Music.

Guests are invited to dress in Halloween costumes. Best-costume prizes will be awarded, including a category for adults.

Proceeds go toward the MU Percussive Arts Society Club, to support Millikin students attending the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. This annual gathering in Indianapolis draws drummers, solo artists, orchestral musicians, teachers, and percussion ensembles into one place for four days of concerts, clinics, paper presentations, and student competitions.
