“Overall, Millikin provided early stability in my life and gave me knowledge and information that has been very helpful throughout my life.” George Irish led the Hearst Newspapers Group for 10 years during his 29-year career of achievements with the Hearst Corporation, where he also guided two of the Hearst family’s philanthropic foundations. Upon his death, Hearst Foundation President Virginia Hearst Randt noted that Irish “made the world a better place in business, in philanthropy and as a friend.” A loyal and devoted alumnus of Millikin, Irish was honored as 2002 Alumnus of the Year among other University awards. A generous donor, Irish also served 10 years on the University’s board of trustees, including several years leading it as chair.
