CHAMPAIGN - We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dr. Gene P. King on Jan. 17, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on Oct. 31, 1934, he was a cherished member of the Champaign-Urbana community, esteemed for his commitment to orthodontics and his avid love for sports.
A proud graduate of Rantoul High School, Dr. King excelled in various sports, particularly distinguishing himself in the high jump during his college years. His athletic achievements led to his induction into the Rantoul High School Hall of Fame. An unwavering enthusiast for athletics, he enjoyed golf and travel, and was a fervent supporter of the Illini sports teams.
Dr. King honorably served in the 82nd Airborne, a legacy proudly continued by his grandson Nicholas.
