DECATUR - Garnet A. Woolard, 56, of Decatur, IL, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Garnet was born on September 11, 1967, in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Robert Dean and Kathryn Sue (Barnfield) Varvel. She was raised in Blue Mound, IL, and graduated from Blue Mound High School. She received her Bachelor's degree from Millikin University, then her Master's degree from Eastern Illinois University. Later in her life she returned to Millikin University to earn her teaching certificate. Garnet married Bryan D. Woolard on November 2, 1991. Garnet was a teacher at Decatur Christian School and a supervisor at Webster Cantrell Hall. She was a member of Decatur Free Will Baptist Church and Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Garnet's favorite season was fall and she enjoyed shopping with her daughters, coffee, watching crime shows and mentoring and ministering her students. She loved her family and her dogs.
Garnet is survived by her husband, Bryan D. Woolard of Decatur, IL; children: Hannah Gabriella Woolard of St. Louis, MO, Tabitha Elizabeth Woolard (Caleb Braasch) of St. Louis, MO, and Austin Dale Woolard (Karrigan True) of Decatur, IL; siblings: William Kevin (Susan) Varvel of Blue Mound, IL, Susan D. Wareham of Blue Mound, IL, Gaylord Dean (Trinda) Varvel of Blue Mound, IL and Dawn R. Varvel of Decatur, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kirk L. Varvel; nephew, Brandon Michael Varvel; and her mother-in-law, Florene Alcorn.
