Elizabeth Mason, Class of 1970

Elizabeth Jean Mason was born in Des Moines, Iowa on May 10, 1948. Her parents were Bill and Jean Currie. She moved to Peoria, Illinois in 1960. She attended Peoria High School, and later Milliken University in Decatur, Illinois. She graduated in 1970 with a B.A. degree in music and became an elementary vocal music teacher. Elizabeth also completed a Master's degree at Peoria's Bradley University in guidance and counseling.

Elizabeth was teaching in Marseilles, Illinois when she met her future husband Jerry Mason. They were married August 21, 1976 at Peoria, Illinois First Baptist Church. A job change for her husband resulted in a move to the Chicago suburbs in 1976 and a further move to Solon, Ohio in 1981. Daughter Diana was born in 1979 and daughter Cynthia was born in 1982. Elizabeth did not return to teaching after her children were born and became a full time homemaker.

Music continued to be a life-long interest with active participation in church choir, bell choir, community chorus and a vocal pop ensemble. She also enjoyed attending barbershop shows, concerts at Blossom Music Center and musicals at Playhouse Square. She was a 50 year member and past president of several PEO chapters, most recently chapter EX in Medina, Ohio.
