She and her younger sister Judy attended Proviso High School, and Carol went on to Millikin University where she met Charles Arthur “Chuck” Berg in an art class. They were married on February 24, 1962 in Maywood, IL.
The first several years were busy with moves and new children added to their family. Cheryl was born in Denison, IA in (’63), Jeffrey in Rapid City, SD in (’65) and finally Sandy (‘66) and Carla (‘71) were born in Fremont, NE. Chuck's job as a territory manager for John Deere kept them moving and the family relocated to O’Neill, NE in 1976, then to Des Moines, IA in 1986. They finally settled in Fargo, ND in 1989 for twenty-plus years before entering a retirement center in Sioux Falls, SD. She spent the last year of her life in Cottonwood Villa in Ainsworth, NE and the Rock County Long Term Care Facility in Bassett.
Carol enjoyed art and decorating. She had a good eye for beauty and enjoyed making floral and seasonal decorations. Carol was dedicated to caring for her family and seeking a relationship with Jesus Christ her savior. She gained many friends through her church group affiliations. She was a dedicated housewife, always trying to have a good meal on the table for an evening family gathering and trying to keep her house a home. Chuck’s responsibilities on the road left her in charge most of the time so she managed the four kids and a dog so he could come home to his family and rest. She valued family and friends and could recite events and relationships from both her own and Chuck’s family histories. They had many good friends from school and Chuck’s colleagues in John Deere with whom they enjoyed traveling and celebrating anniversaries.
