Artrageous comes to Millikin’s Kirkland Fine Arts Center on Nov. 2

This multimedia circus of art, music, and choreography will thrill and amaze.

DECATUR, Ill. – Millikin University’s Kirkland Fine Arts Center proudly presents Artrageous Saturday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. This circus of art, music, and choreography presents a world where art comes alive, colors dance, and creativity knows no bounds. Made up of a troupe of misfit artists, singers, dancers, and musicians who started as friends doing street theatre in Vancouver, British Columbia, this show is the culmination of decades of work.

In the early 1980s, the artists of Artrageous started the “All and Everything Theater”, a non-profit children’s theater focusing on children’s entertainment, street theater and life-sized bunraku puppetry. But tragedy befell their troupe only a few years later, when their hand-built theater building, with all their props and puppets, burnt to the ground on Christmas Day.

Instead of giving up, the resilient group created a new act, which has now been performed for the likes of Sir Richard Branson, Steve Forbes, General Colin Powell, and in venues and events all over the world from India to Thailand, Paris to Austria. The Artrageous show pays tribute to the troupe’s values and roots, sharing their love of the arts from the stage.

Imagine being transported to a realm where every stroke of the brush is a heartbeat, every note is a pulse, and every move is a masterpiece. Combining beautiful vocals, intricate choreography, and exciting music, Artrageous takes you on a visual journey and a high-energy ride of inspiration, creativity, and engagement. With a history of incredible collaborations from Harrison Ford to the NBA All-Stars to Blue Man Group, from Cirque du Soleil to the Oscars After-Party, Artrageous has graced prestigious venues, captivating audiences worldwide.

After the show, attendees can join the troupe on stage to view the paintings, chat with the performers, take selfies, and walk through the Live Art Gallery. One lucky audience member will have the chance to win one of the live paintings painted during the show, valued at $15,000. These paintings are large, vivid re-creations of iconic works of art or figures from pop history and are truly spectacular to behold.

“This year, we wanted to bring in a show packed with spectacle and truly unlike anything you can experience anywhere else in town,” said Director of Kirkland Fine Arts Center Bryan Diver. “Artrageous fit the bill and then some. This show is an awesome and stunning display of artistry across disciplines, and we’re truly delighted to be able to offer it to the Millikin and Decatur community.”
