What Are the Arts and Sciences?

The liberal arts and the sciences are both ways to develop and use new knowledge to improve the human condition.

In the College of Arts & Sciences at Millikin University, we invite students to become knowledge seekers, makers, and transformers in their communities and professions. Join our effort to learn beyond the instant, to be a creator of new knowledge, to go beyond the surface. Work with us as we explore creative uses of knowledge to solve problems, to observe the physical and the social worlds, and to change ourselves and and our world through the arts and sciences.

The college consists of three divisions with a total of eleven departments. There are about 750 students across all of our majors, which represents about one-third of all Millikin undergraduate students. A&S students include about 350 students majoring in the Social Sciences, 250 students majoring in the Natural Sciences, and 150 students majoring in the Humanities.

Welcome to Millikin University, where we ask you to take the academic stage, to perform your knowledge, and to develop habits of life-long learning. There are plenty of problems in the world. You are uniquely positioned to develop solutions that the world needs now to solve those problems.
