Audition Requirements

BFA Musical Theatre – Audition Requirements

  • Acting: Please prepare one memorized contemporary monologue (written from the 20th Century to the present) from a published play, 60-90 seconds including your slate. The character should be close to your own age and performed without a regional dialect or accent (we want to hear your natural speaking voice). Monologues from films, TV, musicals, stand-alone pieces, and self-written works are not appropriate for this audition. Story telling monologues, or pieces that detail a previous event, should be avoided. Please avoid material by Christopher Durang or Neil Simon, or pieces commonly found in published monologue books.
  • Voice: Two memorized songs from published Broadway literature (one written before 1970, one after 1970) and contrasting in style, i.e. up-tempo and ballad. Selections should be 60 - 90 seconds seconds including your slate. These two songs should be representative of the range of your voice. You may include a 3rd song in a pop-rock style if you choose but it is not required. Note: Please do not select material by Jason Robert Brown, Adam Guettel, or Stephen Sondheim. Why?   • Dance: Click on the link for a list of required skills for your dance video.

BFA Acting – Audition Requirements

  • Acting: Please prepare two memorized contemporary monologues (written after 1950) from published plays, 60 - 90 seconds in length including your slate. The characters should be close to your own age and performed without a regional dialect or accent (we want to hear your natural speaking voice). Monologues from films, TV, musicals, stand-alone pieces, and self-written works are not appropriate for this audition. Story telling monologues, or pieces that detail a previous event, should be avoided. Please avoid material by Christopher Durang or Neil Simon, or pieces commonly found in published monologue books.

Submitting Your Audition Materials

  • The School of Theatre and Dance uses GetAcceptd.com to manage video audition submissions for the Millikin/Broadway Dreams Scholarship.  Prior to submitting audition materials, all applicants must first apply to and be accepted by the Millikin Office of Admission. Once accepted, an access code will be sent to you allowing you to upload your audition materials to GetAcceptd. When submitting your materials please be sure to select the appropriate Broadway Dreams option from the "Select a Program" menu. Detailed information regarding all submission materials may also be found on our GetAcceptd page. Please be aware there is a non-refundable $30 fee to upload your audition materials.  To submit audition materials visit www.getacceptd.com/millikin.

Applicants may also opt to audition on campus or at our Chicago Auditions.  Prior to selecting an audition date, applicants must first be accepted by the Millikin Office of Admission. Those choosing this option must attend one of the following auditions:

Application and Video Submission Deadlines
 

The deadline for applications and video submissions is Friday, February 7, 2020.  

Students must be accepted by the Millikin Office of Admission by the February 7th deadline to be considered for this scholarship. Applications are currently being accepted. We recommend having your application and supporting materials in to the Office of Admission by January 1, 2020 to allow time to process your application by the February deadline.
