Job Description

 

Position Title:  Athletic Trainer   

Department:     Athletics                

Job Summary:  The Athletic Trainer assists the Director of Sports Medicine in developing and implementing the sports medicine program for intercollegiate athletics.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Injury prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation for student athletes
  • Assist with educational program and counseling for student-athletes.
  • Assist with all aspects of the sports medicine program.

Other Duties:

1.       Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, or a directly related field (Master’s Degree preferred)
  • Certification by the NATA Board of Certification
  • License from the Illinois’ Department of Licensing and Professional Regulation
  • Knowledge of intercollegiate sports programs
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
  • Knowledge of medical care, prevention, and treatment of athletic injuries
  • Ability to work harmoniously and effectively with others
  • Ability to perform the duties of a licensed/certified athletic trainer
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Work Environment:

Manual Dexterity: 

  • Dexterity to operate a keyboard

Physical Effort: 

  • Position requires long periods of standing, with intermittent sitting, walking, reaching, bending, and grasping.
  • Occasionally lifting 25 lbs. or more
  • Hearing and visual acuity within normal range

Working Conditions:  

  • Incumbent works both in and outdoors, and has periodic exposure to dust, pollen, heat, cold and inclement weather
