Program Highlights
The Doctor of Nursing Practice Completion Program is for Advanced Practice Nurses who want to complete the practice doctorate as their highest earned academic degree. The DNP is a practice-focused doctorate similar in scope to those practice doctorates offered in other professional disciplines.
Students who can enroll are those holding Advanced Practice licensure in the state of Illinois as either a nurse midwife, a nurse anesthetist, a clinical specialist, or a nurse practitioner. Advanced Practice Nurses enrolled in this option will normally require 23-25 hours to complete the degree.
Master's level APN transcripts will be reviewed individually to determine the number of residency hours required. Coursework is designed to be completed part-time over a 30-month period. The DNP Program does not follow the traditional university calendar. Courses are delivered online, year-round.

Getting Into the Program
The School of Nursing participates in Nursing’s Centralized Application Service (NursingCas). All materials will be submitted through NursingCas (https://nursingcas.org/). Application opens August. Applications will be considered on rolling basis.
NursingCAS collects and processes your application documents and verifies your transcripts. We receive information from NursingCas and use it to make our admission decision. We recommend that you order all official transcripts from all college experiences as early in the process as possible. NursingCAS provides detailed information on the transcript process for all applicants. Millikin University requires course-by-course evaluations for transcripts from foreign institutions and we accept evaluations from World Education Services, Inc. (WES) and Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (ECE).
Based on your application, we evaluate all applicants on the following:
Graduate applicants should:
- Complete the DNP Application.
- Upload official transcripts from all graduate and undergraduate institutions attended and demonstrate a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Show evidence of MSN core courses, (Advanced Health Assessment across the Lifespan, Advanced Pharmacology across the Lifespan and Advanced Pathophysiology across the Lifespan) as well as graduate-level statistics and Health Care Policy and Economics course prior to enrollment.
- Possess an unencumbered/unrestricted license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Illinois. Submit evidence of advanced practice national certification. Submit current resume or curriculum vita that demonstrates advanced nursing practice experience and continuing education since licensure.
- Provide three (3) written recommendations (form).
- Submit a one to two-page written statement (up to 1000 words) addressing personal and professional goals related to the DNP Program.
- Submit a current resume or curriculum vitae.
In addition, international students must submit official transcripts (in English) with an official evaluation of those transcripts by a foreign credentials evaluation agency and proof of English proficiency. For requirements, go to: Center for International Education.
