The society’s mission is to bring together the university and individuals who believe in the promotion and support of the fine and performing arts and the student-artists at Millikin.
The society works closely with the College of Fine Arts, Alumni & Development Office, and alumni and parents in promoting Millikin’s fine arts and holding fundraising activities to support Millikin’s student-artists.
Patrons Society Benefits
Society members receive regular updates about upcoming programs, advance notice of special ticket offers and invitations to lectures and receptions. Members are also invited to special events held in conjunction with appearances by MU fine arts students and alumni in venues around the country.
The Patrons Society Supports:
Academic Department Support
Patrons may also designate their gifts in support of a specific academic department within the College of Fine Arts, including the Art Department, Arts Technology, School of Music and School of Theatre and Dance.
Activities made possible in the past include senior art shows, special guest lectures and guest designers for the School of Theatre and Dance.
Guest Artists/Special Projects
Among the guest artists who have conducted master classes and workshops on campus are: Joe Machota ’93, former “Mamma Mia” Broadway cast member; Alan Held ’81, internationally-known opera singer; Bill Conger, mixed-media artist; and Sierra Boggess ’04, Ariel in Broadway’s production of “The Little Mermaid.” These experiences are integral aspects of student-artists’ growth and maturation.
Special projects such as these add value to a Millikin University education:
- A New York City Showcase for musical theatre majors to audition for casting and production agents
- Support for students to perform locally in free concerts at the Decatur Public Library
- Hosting artists-in-residence such as jazz artist Rachael Price and Aquila Theatre Company
- Support for student-run businesses including Blue Connection, Carriage House Press, First Step Records and Pipe Dreams Studio Theatre
