Building Bridges Across Cultures
Hannah’s Building Bridges Across Cultures workshops are designed to enhance the global learning environment at Millikin. The goals for these workshops aim at improving cultural competency and literacy to foster a more inclusive, welcoming campus environment for international, multilingual, globally diverse, and underrepresented students.
Program Impact
The “Building Bridges” program aims to drive meaningful, positive changes at Millikin University:
- Enhanced Intercultural Communication Skills: Participants will gain practical tools and strategies for effective communication across cultural and linguistic barriers, leading to improve interactions between faculty, staff, and students of diverse backgrounds.
- Welcoming Campus Environment: This initiative will catalyze creation of a more accessible and inclusive atmosphere for international, multilingual, underrepresented, and globally diverse community members.
- Increased Awareness of Diverse Student Needs: Faculty and staff will develop a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by international students, enabling them to provide more targeted and effective support in academic and social settings.
- Enhanced Academic Success: Faculty will be equipped with strategies to implement inclusive pedagogy and better support diverse learners, potentially improving academic performance and retention among underrepresented student populations.
- Strengthened Peer Support Networks: Students will develop skills to engage in meaningful cross-cultural interactions, creating stronger peer support systems and fostering a more inclusive, globally-minded campus culture.
- Enhanced Institutional Preparedness: Millikin will be better equipped to address the needs of a diverse campus community – potentially helping improve recruitment and retention rates among international and underrepresented populations, strengthen alumni networks and engagement, and increase appeal to top global talent.
