Lyle J. Salmi received his Bachelor of Fine Art degree in Painting/Drawing from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1983. Salmi then went on to study art at Arizona State University where he received the Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting/Drawing in 1988.

Professor Salmi is currently Professor and Chair of the Art Department at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. Professor Salmi teaches painting, figure drawing, and printmaking, with over 25 years of experience teaching art.

Professor Salmi has been a Coleman Foundation Fellow in Entrepreneurship since 2008 and is director of Carriage House Press, www.carriagehousepress.org, a student run printing press and classroom laboratory as part of Millikin University’s Center For Entrepreneurship. In 2014, Professor Salmi was awarded the Millikin University Research/Artistic Achievement Award in honor of excellence in his artwork.

Professor Salmi has also actively exhibited his artwork in numerous group and solo shows throughout the United States, including 14 solo exhibitions and 37 juried group exhibitions.  In addition, Professor Salmi has been invited as a visiting artist at Southern Illinois University, Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticutt, and at Bowling Green State University.
