Dr. Julio Enríquez-Ornelas is an Assistant Professor of Spanish and Coordinator of the Spanish Education Program in the Department of Modern Languages at Millikin University. He is a Coleman Foundation Faculty Fellow in Entrepreneurship and the James Millikin Estate Professor in Education. He completed a Ph.D. from the University of California-Riverside specializing in twentieth to twenty-first century Latin American literature and late nineteenth to twenty-first century Mexican narrative.

He has taught all levels of Spanish language and culture courses. He has also taught literature and film in Latin America, Spain, and U.S. Latinos as well as Spanish for Journalism and Spanish for the Health Professions. He has developed performance-learning courses, with a student-center approach. His teaching and research explore how history, gender, race, and social class intersect in Latin America and Spain.

His research considers how fin de siècle novelists implicitly imagine the Porfirian-era of modernization; and how contemporary novelists have reimagined this era through the appropriation of cultural productions. His most recent research examines contemporary Latinx writers and Colombian novelists. He is currently serving as a co-editor for the Critical Storytelling on/from with(in) [the] Border(s) international book anthology published with Brill|Sense. He currently serves as the Vice President of the Colombianist Research Group. Within the Midwest Modern Language Association, he serves as the Session Chair for the Film II-Film and Pedagogy permanent session. His critical and creative work has appeared in Hispania, Journal of the Midwest Modern Language Association, Textos Híbridos, Alchemy: Journal of Translation, El BeisMan, “La open letter” by Ediciones Patito and Paloma Revista.
