Guided by student development theory and an eight-dimension student wellness framework, the coordinator is responsible for residential student experiences and housing operations practices that promote positive academic, retention, graduation, placement, and personal satisfaction outcomes by planning, implementing, and evaluating programs, activities, and events that engage and develop students from new student orientation to degree or program completion. The position requires high student contact and high visibility. This role also assists and supports the supervisor with matters related to the daily operations of the traditional Millikin University on-campus residential community, critical departmental functions such as Resident Assistant supervision, and maintaining positive relationships with approved Greek housing and a privately-operated apartment facility. This is a live-in position with emergency on-call rotation responsibilities.
The position requires predictable evening and weekend hours to supervise or participate in student, staff, and University programs, events, services, and experiences. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Position Specific Responsibilities
- Assisting with marketing and promoting housing options to achieve housing goals.
- Assisting with the housing application and assignment process.
- Entering housing data into the housing database regularly and accurately based on internal requirements.
- Supervising paraprofessional residence hall staff in traditional on-campus residential communities (e.g., assisting with recruitment coordination, selection, training, evaluation, and continuous professional development).
- Supervising assigned residential facilities in accordance with operational protocols and university policies.
- Serving as a liaison to appropriate University departments (e.g., Business Office, Center for International Education, Public Safety, Admission, Athletics, Alumni Office, etc.) and The Woods, a private apartment facility housing students.
- Assisting with the development, implementation, and evaluation of residential curriculum and programming efforts with other areas of Student Affairs and the campus/local communities (e.g., residential wellness initiatives such as Alcohol Awareness Week, Fire Safety and Prevention Week, The Nick Project, and Safe Spring Break programs).
- Assisting with student conduct violations of the Millikin University Standards of Conduct.
- Assisting with supporting, as needed, Title IX operations (training provided).
- Assisting in the coordination of departmental functions such as housing placement and selection, Move-In Days, New Student Welcome Week, paraprofessional staff selection and training, and learning outcomes assessment.
- Responding to inquiries related to the residency policy.
- Assisting the supervisor with tasks, activities, and initiatives as assigned and related to maintaining positive relations with approved Greek houses and The Woods management.
- Participating in the Student Affairs emergency on-call rotation efforts (training provided).
- Serving as the responsible administrator in the absence of the Director.
Core Student Affairs Responsibilities

- Completing routine administrative functions as appropriate (e.g., budgeting, report-writing, strategic planning, record-keeping, data collection and management, developing policies and procedures, and evaluation and assessments related to student outcomes and program effectiveness).
- Implementing customer feedback processes to ensure concerns are addressed and improvements are considered.
- Assisting colleagues with planning and programming related to signature campus events (e.g., Orientation and Registration Days; Convocations and Commencements; Family Weekend and Homecoming; The Spring Big Event; Student Welcome Week; Involvement Fairs; Cookie Event Tradition; Career Fairs; Late Night Pancake Breakfast; Annual Awards Program; etc.).
- Collaborating and partnering with campus offices to achieve student success metrics such as retention, engagement, graduation, and placement.
- Serving on appropriate university or community committees, councils, and boards as recommended by the supervisor or University President.
- Participating in student recruitment and providing positive student experiences leading to retention and other student success outcomes.
- Implementing emergency communication plans and protocols which includes providing direction, oversight, guidance, and support as needed in emergency or crisis situations.
- Seeking and proposing opportunities for ongoing appropriate professional development for self and, if applicable, reporting staff.
- Communicating effectively university and department goals, achievements, challenges, solutions, practices, changes, and consistently enforcing all policies and regulations.
- Maintaining high ethical standards and integrity by conducting all operations professionally, including acting in accordance with all Millikin University policies and procedures.
- Performing other mission-critical and job-related duties as assigned based on operational needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The position assists with supervising undergraduate and graduate student staff.

Education and/or Experience
Required - Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred
- Master’s degree preferred.
- At least two years of direct or transferable experience. Graduate Assistantships, Internships, and Practical experiences will count as half-year (.50) time. Experience in privately-owned university residences will be considered.
- Experiences in a college or university setting.
- Experience supervising students or professional staff at any level.
- Experience using events management or scheduling software or database platforms.
- Experience using housing software (Millikin uses eRezLife platform system).
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or providing university housing accommodations in accordance with university policies and federal and/or state laws related to individuals with a disability.
- Experience applying wellness, student development, advising, and/or trauma-informed practices in service-delivery.
