Nancy Redifer, Class of 1953

Nancy grew up in Oak Park, attended Horace Mann Elementary School and graduated from Oak Park-River Forest High School in 1949. She graduated in 1953 from Millikin University in Decatur, IL, earning a B.S. in Home Economics, with a Major in Foods/Institutional Management and a Minor in Art & Design. Nancy began her professional life working for Marshall Field & Co. in the Restaurant Division. As the Food Service and Production Manager, she was responsible for opening the restaurant at the “new” airport at O’Hare Field, as well as restaurants at Midway Airport, Old Orchard, Field’s Annex, and Oakbrook. In the late sixties, she pivoted to Interior Decorating working for The Sellegren Corporation, Jean-LeeDesigns, Inc., Interiors by Bruce, Charles-Allen Interiors, and finally the Concept Group until she retired in 2003. She was an involved member of many professional organizations and traveled extensively in the US on their behalf, especially enjoying time in Denver, CO and Hawaii. One of her great skills was the ability combine that artistic eye with pragmatic operations, which made her so successful early on at Marshall Fields and later in interior decorating. She was resourceful, knew how to communicate with people, and get things done.
