DECATUR, Ill. – Aspiring musicians and those looking to get into the music industry headed to Millikin’s University Commons on Saturday, April 15, to attend the 2023 Midwest Music Expo (MmX) and learn from industry professionals.
In addition to the lineup of speakers and artists, MmX also featured a marketplace with 30 vendors selling a variety of music-related merchandise, including instruments, equipment and apparel.
Millikin videographer Richard Ndembe was in attendance and brings you a behind-the-scenes look at this year’s Midwest Music Expo, including an interview with MmX founder and Millikin School of Music instructor Martin Atkins. Atkins is best known for his work in post-punk and industrial groups including Public Image Ltd, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Pigface and Killing Joke.
The 2023 MmX was also featured on the cover of the Decatur Herald & Review's Sunday, April 16 edition in an article by reporter Donette Beckett. Beckett talked with attendees from Central Illinois, Millikin alumni and students involved in the MmX production. You can check out the full article on the H&R website.
This year’s MmX lineup expands to a second event in 2023 as the event heads to Chicago on June 23 and 24 at the Bridgeport Arts District. Tickets to the Chicago events are available now.
