In an industry where unemployment rates among union members consistently hover around 88% - 90%, booking work is not just challenging, it’s nearly impossible. School of Theatre and Dance alumni have a long history of skewing those statistics and this fall, have made it look down-right easy to book high profile gigs. Wouldn’t it be great if you could see some of these alumni living their dream as performers? Well this season, you may get your wish. There are a number of Broadway National Tours currently on the road that feature Millikin alumni and there are two new tours of older shows (one currently running and one soon to open) that will be crisscrossing the country over the next several months. Come from Away – One of the most uplifting stories of our generation, Come From Away tells the story of the 6600 “plane people” who were grounded at the Gander Newfoundland Airport on September 11, 2001 and the generosity of the people of Gander and surrounding communities in a time of crisis. Take note of the follow spots in this show. One is operated by School of Theatre and Dance alum, Jamie Bell.
Hello Dolly - Featuring School of Theatre and Dance alum, Ian Liberto, and School of Music alum, Tim Shew, this lavish and beautifully staged production tells the story of the notorious match maker, Mrs. Dolly Levi and her search to find a new husband. Anastasia - This live action fictional telling of the story of Grand Duchess Anastasia of Russia is based on the animated film featuring a score by the writers of Ragtime and Rocky The Musical, Ahrens and Flaherty. Legally Blonde – OMIGOD You Guys! Elle Woods and her Chihuahua Bruiser are back on a new tour of this early 00’s pop classic which features 2018 School of Theatre and Dance alum, Jacob Melssen.
If you’re in New York City and are looking for some MilliBlues on Broadway, you can catch Anthony Norman in his Broadway debut in the new musical, The Prom, and Drew Nellessen in his Broadway debut in the classic hit, Chicago.
And Speaking of Chicago, School of Theatre and Dance alumni have been tearing it up in Chitown. Anastasia Arnold, Anna Brockman, Danielle Davila, and Travis Wright are currently appearing in The Wizard of Oz at the Paramount Theatre. Lexis Danca recently closed Sweet Charity at the Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre, and Denzel Tsopnang just closed a production of 110 in the Shade at BoHo theatre.
These are just but a few examples of the many productions School of theatre and Dance alumni have been involved with in recent months. From the Guthrie in Minneapolis to John Engman Theatre in New York, to the ships of Celebrity Cruise Line, to Disney and the many companies in the surrounding Orlando area, School of Theatre and Dance alums are #Millikillinit and making it look so easy.
