Millikin Alum Goes Full Circle with Jazz Age Musical
Shortly after graduating from Millikin with a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre, Ian Liberto (’05) was cast in a bus and truck national touring company of the smash hit Broadway musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie. At the time he could not have known that 12 years later he would be taking part in the 15th anniversary concert production of this beloved musical with a roster of Broadway heavyweights including original cast memebers, Sutton Foster, Gavin Creel, Casey Nicholaw, Kate Baldwin, Marc Kudish, and Harriet Harris. The one-night-only concert production was presented on February 12th at Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre as a benefit for The Actors Fund, a non-profit human resources organization offering a variety of support services to those working in the arts.
Currently appearing in the Broadway revival of Hello Dolly starring Bernadette Peters, Ian has become a Broadway heavyweight in his own right. His other credits include the Broadway productions of Promises Promises, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Chaplin, and Billy Elliot. In addition to his Broadway credits, Ian has appeared in the Broadway National Tours of The Book of Mormon, A Chorus Line, Evita, and Billy Elliot.
The Broadway industry is steeped in tradition and reverence. While rehearsing for this historic revival concert of Thoroughly Modern Millie, Ian put some of his thoughts into a blog posting for The Ensemblist, a website dedicated to those with careers as ensemble members in Broadway shows.
