Preparing for the Unexpected

Unfortunately, Millikin University cannot isolate itself from societal concerns related to sudden violent events. Millikin University Public Safety, in partnership with campus and community resources, is focused on providing a safe and secure environment for our campus community. To that end, we proactively work with our community to prevent threats to campus. Our Risk Threat Assessment Team and other community resources work together to identify and mitigate potential threats to campus safety.

The resources found in this section of our website contain information about how these resources work to prevent or respond to a sudden violent events on campus. We also have included resources about action steps (Run, Hide, Fight) that campus and community members can take in the unlikely event they are faced with a sudden violent event.

Run, Hide, Fight

Millikin University Public Safety recognizes that many in our community are curious about what they can do in the event of a sudden violent threat on campus or out in public.  The video linked below is a simple, common sense awareness model that effectively outlines reasonable steps one can take in the event they face a sudden violent threat.

This video, recently produced by the Houston Mayor’s Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security, dramatizes an active shooter incident in the workplace. Its purpose is to educate the public on how to respond during such an incident. Warning: The initial sequence in this video may be disturbing.
