Millikin student-athletes emphasize fitness during day camp

Every year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Millikin University cheerleaders hold a camp for prekindergarten through fourth-grade students to teach them the basics of cheering, safe and easy stunts and a dance.
 
Karlee VanDeVelde, a senior nursing major, enjoys sharing her school spirit with the girls but also emphasized the fitness aspect of cheerleading. It's a physically demanding sport, she said, and practice keeps her in shape.
