Building Expectations

The Millikin men's basketball team added many new faces to the program this season, but an experienced and familiar Jacob Kueker returns for his third year in the Big Blue uniform. The 6'5 junior out of Red Bud is ready to help the Big Blue to a successful junior season.

"Being a Millikin basketball player is a great honor," Kueker said. "I wake up everyday to play the game I love at a college level in which not many people can say they've done. It's especially great at a school like Millikin; we are in one of the best DIII conferences in the country."

So far this season Millikin is 4-2. Kueker has seen action in all six of the Big Blue's games.

"My favorite thing about Millikin Basketball is that we're more than just friends or teammates, we're a family and I get to play alongside my brothers," Kueker said.

The Physical Education major saw action in 22 varsity games last season, averaging nine points per game. His freshman year, Kueker played in 12 varsity games. With a career high of 20 points, six rebounds, and six assists, Kueker starts his junior season off so far with 14 rebounds and 21 points.

Kueker has high expectations for this season and is looking forward to the games ahead. "This year I personally would like to average at least four rebounds a game," Kueker said. "As a team I want to make it to the conference tournament and surprise some teams along the way."

Kueker came to Millikin because he loved the small school environment, and knew that not only would he obtain a great education, but that he also gets the opportunity to continue playing basketball at the college level.

After graduation, Kueker would like to one day teach abroad and get his Master's Degree in Special Education so he can then teach high school Special Ed.

"I want people at Millikin to remember me for being more than just a player on the basketball team," Kueker said. "I hope they remember me for being a hard worker who never took any day for granted."

The Big Blue will leave Decatur and take on the University of Illinois-Springfield on Saturday December 6 at 3 p.m. They will then return to Griswold in a game against Greenville College on Monday December 8 at 7 p.m.
