Seed funding to be awarded to new student ventures
Millikin University's Tabor School of Business will host Launch Weekend, presented by Agile for Entrepreneurship (A4E), Feb. 16-18 on Millikin University's campus. Launch Weekend is an opportunity for students to pitch business ideas and self-organize into teams to develop and test their concept with customers, and pitch to executives and entrepreneurs for seed funding.
Students will have 48 hours to form a team with their peers, create an original business idea, and pitch their idea to industry professionals.
Additionally, Agile for Entrepreneurship Millikin Student Fellows are cordially inviting the Decatur, Ill., community to the Millikin University Launch Weekend Finale on Sunday, Feb. 18, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. The finale will be held in the University Commons Banquet Room on Millikin's campus.
During the finale, students from Millikin University, regional community colleges, and select high schools will be pitching business concepts they are creating, testing and refining that weekend. Judges will then award $5000 in seed capital to the winning teams.
"We will have students trying to come up with amazing ideas to launch a business," said Julie Shields, director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at Millikin. "It's a great opportunity to meet new people and focus on business ideas in a short amount of time."
The first Launch Weekend was held in November 2017, at which $3000 in seed funding was awarded to three teams, two of which are still operating today.
The Agile for Entrepreneurship Student Fellows are a co-curricular group within the Center for Entrepreneurship at Millikin University. Student Fellows work closely with Millikin students to encourage them to identify problems, generate creative and monetizable solutions, and test their viability in a quick and low-cost manner. The program is funded by ADM Cares for the 2017-2018 academic year.
