Millikin University to celebrate 100th Homecoming
Millikin University invites students, alumni and friends to join Millikin's 100th Homecoming celebration Sept. 28–Oct. 4, 2015.
Millikin students will celebrate Homecoming with a week full of activities that will conclude on the weekend of Oct. 2-4, 2015, when hundreds of alumni and friends return to campus.
Homecoming week officially begins on Monday, Sept. 28, with the annual Homecoming Kickoff Carnival at 5 p.m. on the Miller Quad. Stop by and enjoy the great carnival atmosphere with games, mechanical bull rides, raffle prizes, music, cotton candy, popcorn and much more.
The annual Homecoming Fireworks display will take place on Monday, Sept. 28, at 8 p.m. on Frank M. Lindsay Field on Millikin University's campus.
Students will also participate in traditional Homecoming events throughout the week, including a talent show at Kirkland Fine Arts Center on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m., and Chalk the Walk on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 4 p.m., where students compete to create the best chalk design behind Shilling Hall.
Alumni Award recipients and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will be honored Friday, Oct. 2, at a celebratory dinner and program in lower Richards Treat University Center from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Also on Friday, alumni and friends are welcomed back to campus with a complimentary reception at the Alumni and Development Center from 6:30 - 10 p.m.
On Saturday, Oct. 3, Women's and Men's Soccer will face off against North Park University at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. respectively. The Big Blue Football team will take on North Central College at 6 p.m. at Frank M. Lindsay Field. It will be the first Homecoming night game in Millikin University's history.
Prior to the games on Oct. 3, a complimentary All-Millikin Lunch and Reunion Row will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Griswold Physical Education Center. Alumni will be treated to a complimentary lunch buffet. After lunch, alumni can walk through Reunion Row, a collection of mini-reunions featuring student organizations, Greek organizations, athletic teams, departments and offices.
Millikin students, alumni and friends can also catch vocal group m-pact at Kirkland Fine Arts Center on Saturday, Oct. 3, beginning at 2 p.m.
Winner of the Vocal Group of the Year award at the Los Angeles Music Awards, a cappella group m-pact, featuring Jarrett Johnson '01, has performed with pop superstars and jazz legends including Sheryl Crow, Natalie Cole, Bobby McFerrin and many others. Johnson is also a founding member of Chapter 6, an award-winning a cappella group which had its start in Millikin's choral department. Homecoming Week 2015 will conclude on Sunday, Oct. 4, with open houses at the James Millikin Homestead and the home of President White and his wife, Chris. Students and alumni are also encouraged to participate in the Homecoming Color 5K Run/Walk starting at 11 a.m. at the Fairview Park Pavilion in Decatur, Ill., and a Homecoming Choral Concert, featuring members of the University Choir and Alumni Choir, at 2 p.m., at Central Christian Church.
