Millikin University art students and faculty hosted the "Empty Chili Bowl" on Dec. 2, a fundraiser benefiting the Good Samaritan Inn of Decatur, Ill.

As part of the fundraiser, Millikin students crafted ceramic bowls and sold them each for $10. Over 130 bowls were sold during the event raising a total of $1,310.

Jim Schietinger, Millikin professor of art said, "The students are volunteering, but they're also volunteering very special unique skills, and not everybody can make those bowls. Those are high level skills, and the bowls are really quite beautiful."

Millikin student Natalie Zelman, a junior art major from Naperville, Ill., said, "We all make the bowls knowing we are going to be donating them, so it's really great. It's a great way to use our talents to actually help others, which is something that you don't really get with art usually."
