The Impact of Small Businesses

Rodney Davis

U.S. Congressman and Millikin University alumnus Rodney Davis '92, (R-Ill.) 13th Congressional District, was the guest speaker at SCORE Decatur's monthly business meeting that took place on Aug. 11 in Perkinson Gallery, Kirkland Fine Arts Center.

Congressman Davis addressed SCORE mentors and shared his thoughts on the impact of small businesses as well as his appreciation for public service.

"My father, a manager at McDonald's in Taylorville (Ill.), gave me an appreciation for public service," said Davis. "I never forgot the upbringing I had, growing up in a small business family, and what that meant to me."

Davis added, "Congress is doing many things that not only impacts businesses in Decatur, but throughout the nation. Those impacts will help grow more opportunities for the next generation."

Rodney Davis was recently sworn into his second term in Congress serving the 13th District of Illinois, a 14-county district covering both urban and rural areas of central and southwestern Illinois. For the 114th Congress, Davis will serve on the House Agriculture Committee, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and the House Administration Committee.

"What I learned as a student in Decatur and growing up in central Illinois is that if you work hard and you had a dream, you can achieve that dream," said Davis. "The people you mentor everyday are going to be able to prove that too when they understand what it's like to go into business and put that dream to action."
