Millikin University's Department of Theatre & Dance was recently recognized as one of the "10 Most Underrated Theatre Colleges in the Midwest" in a recent blog post by OnStage. The list was based off curriculum, facilities, productions, faculty, alumni and cost.
Millikin placed 2nd on the list which covered the following states: Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.
"It's exciting to see Millikin near the top of this list," said Laura Ledford, dean of the College of Fine Arts at Millikin University. "While we wish it were not the 'most underrated' list, it serves as a richly deserved recognition of a program that truly has it all – BA and BFA degrees in a wide range of theatre specialties, including performance, design and management."
Ledford added, "Through Millikin's unique Performance Learning approach to education, our theatre students work with and for professionals throughout their training, and develop the entrepreneurial skills needed to make a life, and a living, in the theatre. We are grateful to Onstage for this recognition."
OnStage goes on to mention the success of Broadway performers from Millikin including: Lavon Fisher-Wilson '95, Tim Shew '80, Jodi Benson '83, Ian Liberto '05 and Sierra Boggess '04.
Based in New Haven, Conn., OnStage is a blog dedicated to Broadway and regional theatre show reviews as well as discussing famous stage directors, actors and technicians.
