Sister Act

After witnessing a violent crime, night club singer Deloris Van Cartier, takes refuge in a Philadelphia convent where she awaits a date in court to testify against the perpetrators. Her values, however, are put to the test when a group of Carmelite nuns unwittingly make their way into her heart and enlighten her on the power of faith and sisterhood.

Sean T. Morrissey, Director and Choreographer

Artist in Residence

Sean has been the Director of Dance at Millikin since 1999.  He was the recipient of the Times Newspaper’s Outstanding Choreography award for his work on the Porthouse Theatre production of Dames at Sea and the Connecticut Critics Circle Best Choreographer Award for his work on the Candlewood Playhouse production of West Side Story. He earned critical acclaim for his direction of the Porthouse Theatre production of A Little Night Music. As a director/choreographer, Sean’s work includes Lucky Stiff, Sweet Charity, Me and My Girl, No No Nanette, Sugar, Damn Yankees, Guys and Dolls, My Favorite Year, Kiss Me Kate, Drowsy Chaperone, The World Goes Round, and Grand Hotel. Other choreography credits include Carousel, The Merry Widow, Brigadoon, Pippin, Pump Boys and Dinettes, and Cabaret. In addition to musicals, Sean has choreographed 21 concert works for the Millikin stage. As a performer, Sean appeared in the original Broadway cast of the Alan Menken and Lynn Ahrens production of A Christmas Carol featuring choreography by Tony Award winner, Susan Stroman, the European tour of 42nd Street, the Vienna company of West Side Story, the Asian tour of South Pacific, and regional productions of Cabaret, Me and My Girl, Big River, Anything Goes, Singin’ In the Rain, Oklahoma!, and Gypsy. Sean is a graduate of Syracuse University and a proud member of Actors Equity Association, SAG-AFTRA, and an Associate Member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC).

Artist in Residence

Kevin Long is an Artist-In-Residence with Millikin University’s School of Music and Department of Theatre and Dance. He has worked in both educational and professional theatre in multiple positions including Musical Director, Director, Conductor, Music Supervisor, Vocal Arranger and Accompanist. Kevin has worked with several other colleges including Old Dominion University, Christopher Newport University and Virginia Wesleyan. He has worked with various Regional Theatre companies including The Lost Colony (Manteo, NC), Virginia Stage Company (Norfolk, VA), The Little Theatre on the Square (Sullivan, IL) and The Hangar Theatre (Ithaca, NY). During his time at Millikin he has served as Musical Director / Conductor for many shows including The Secret Garden, Sugar, Lucky Stiff, Damn Yankees, My Favorite Year, Little Women, A Chorus Line, Spitfire Grill, Urinetown, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Spring Awakening.  Kevin has also served as director for Millikin’s productions of Ruthless and Cinderella.  He will return to the Little Theatre on the Square as Music Director for the 2015 summer season.

An advocate of New Musical development, he has collaborated with the Academy of New Musicals, Theatre Building Chicago, and Millikin University’s New Musicals initiative serving as musical director and music supervisor. Golden Gate (Spring 2011) was the first fully produced original musical on the Millikin University Main Stage season followed by String in Fall of 2013. Kevin is very proud to have been a part of that team.

Recent Millikin credits include Scenic Design for 9 to 5: The Musical, Heathers: The Musical, Nice Work if You Can Get It, Lighting Design for Rough Magic and Scenic Design and Technical Direction for Peter Pan, The Ladies Man, and Legally Blonde: The Musical. Previous design credits include Rent and Hamlet for the Station Theatre and several productions for the Decatur Park District Best of Summer Stock program.  Previous technical credits include work for Indiana University’s Opera and Theatre programs, Iowa Summer Repertory Theatre, Brown County Playhouse, and University of Iowa’s Opera and Theatre programs. Mary earned her MFA in Technical Theatre from Indiana University.

Ashley Bellet, Costume Design

Visiting Instructor

Ashley Bellet is a costume designer and costume crafts artisan. She received BAs in English and Theatre Design from the University of the South at Sewanee, and her MFA in Theatre Design from The University of Memphis where she focused on scenic and costume design, as well as properties and scenic artistry. She is currently working on her PhD in Interdisciplinary Theatre Studies at the University of Madison, Wisconsin. She designed and taught previously at Oklahoma City University, The University of Memphis, and The University of Tulsa, and attended Cobalt Studios for studies in Scenic Artistry. Ashley has worked for American Players Theatre and the Santa Fe Opera as a crafts artisan, and has designed professionally for the Potsdam Music Theatre, The Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre, Oklahoma Children’s Theatre, Playhouse on the Square, Circuit Playhouse, Theatre Memphis, Germantown Theatre, and Theatreworks in Memphis, where she received nominations from the Ostrander Awards for her work. She has also designed for Theatre Tulsa and Light Opera Oklahoma in Tulsa, and The Kentucky Repertory Theatre, among others. She is the Commissioner for the Education Commission of USITT, and a member of the Board of Directors. She is an editor for TD&T and the Wisconsin State Chair for KCACTF.

Matt Albrecht is a lighting designer from Madison, WI. Matt has had the opportunity to work in theaters across the United States. Some of his design highlights include The Greeks (Madison Repertory Theatre), The Water Engine (University Theatre), Into the Woods (Houston's Center Stage Theatre), The Temperamentals (Celebration Theatre), and Annie (Madison Theatre Guild). Matt has also had the opportunity to work with Peninsula Players in Door County, WI. Matt would like to thank the cast and crew for all of their hard work.
