The longest running musical in Broadway history comes to life on the Kirkland Stage in this collaboration between the Schools of Theatre and Dance and Music.  Set at the Paris Opera House in 1881, French novelist Gaston Leroux’s  classic tale chronicles the story of love and despair as the mysterious Phantom demonstrates the lengths to which he will go to obtain the object of his obsession, the beautiful young soprano, Christine Daae.

Katherine is thrilled to be returning to the Millikin stage! Most recently, she was seen as Missy/Female Ensemble in 9 to 5. Katherine has performed in the past three New Musicals Workshops here at Millikin, working with Miller & Tysen, Carner & Gregor, Kooman & Diamond and Braverman & Hassler. She spent her fall of 2017 studying at the Globe Theatre in London. Other credits here at Millikin include Mauritius (Mary), The Addams Family (Ancestor), Some Enchanted Evening, and Solstice: A Concert of Dance.

Vance has recently been a part of a workshop project of a new one-act opera titled Nina: the Hidden Story as Florindo in collaboration with both Mary Beth Sederberg of Undercroft Opera in Pittsburg, PA and Millikin professor Dr. Ian Greenlaw. He has also appeared with Millikin Opera Theater in Mozart’s Bastien and Bastienna (Bastien) and Eirer from The Impresario. Vance was in a Gilbert and Sullivan pastiche operetta titled The Magic Pinafore as Ernest Billings. Operatic Scene work includes Candide from Bernstien’s Candide, Nemorino from Donizetti’s L’elisir’d’amore, Sesto from Handel’s Giulio Cesare, and Jaquino from Beethoven’s Fidelio. In musical theater, he has appeared as I.Q. in Terre Haute Community Theater’s production of Hairspray, Franz from The Sound of Music and Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz in Maple Avenue’s Summer Dinner Theater. He is grateful for this collaborative opportunity with both the School of Theater & Dance and The School of Music.

She is involved in the Opera program here at Millikin, playing the role of Laetitia in the Old Maid and the Thief, the Muse in the The Hidden Story of Nina, and several other roles throughout her career at Millikin. In addition to performance, Lauren is an active member of the International Student Organization serving as the Vice President and Marketing Chair, where she organizes events for cross-cultural awareness on campus.

Rachel is a member of the Millikin Univsersity Choir and serves as current President of the Opera Per Tutti Club, which makes opera accessible to Millikin students. In Millikin's Opera Theatre, she has performed roles such as Bastienna from Mozart's Bastien and Bastienna, Fiordiligi from Cosi Fan Tutte, Susanna from Le Nozze di Figaro, Hänsel from Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, and, most recently, Nina from the new opera Nina: La Storia Nascosta. Rachel relishes the mental and musical challenges that performing presents, coupled with the artful storytelling required of any live performance. She thanks God for every chance to share the music and stories she loves with her audience, and thanks her family for their unending love and support.

McKena was in Millikin’s productions of 9 to 5 as Kathy and The Addams Family as an ancestor. McKena also played Serena in Casper College’s production of Legally Blonde. McKena danced in Millikin’s Solstice: A Concert of Dance, and was a member of Colorado’s Ballet Ariel, and the Idaho Ballet.

During her high school career, she had received performance awards including Best Performer and Best Soloist at the Midwest Show Choir Competition and performed on Carnival Cruise in a leading role while attending McKendree University. Kiana has also been a part of performance groups outside of musical theatre productions such as competing show choirs, acapella groups, and a music video production called “All About That Pride”, a video created by students to showcase school pride. Although she loves to perform on stage, she wants to educate and inspire younger generations to express themselves through music.

Recently, Kimmy was also a featured fairy in The Empire Lyric Players production of Iolanthe, and participated in the world premiere of the new opera Nina: La Storia Nascosta at Millikin as the character Susanna.

Ethan Lupp recently appeared in Suffer! as apart of Pipe Dreams Studio Theatre’s New Works Festival. At Steps Performing Arts Center Ethan’s credits include the Baker in Into the Woods, and Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka. At Drury Lane Oakbrook Theatre Ethan was seen in The Sound of Music. In high school Ethan appeared as Gomez Addams in The Addams Family as well as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, and Bert in Mary Poppins.

Bradley continues to broaden his musical horizons, having played a part in creating a brass quintet, as well as forming an Indie-Pop band. He is excited to make his Mainstage debut at Millikin University.

Kevin Long is an Artist-In-Residence with Millikin University’s School of Music and Department of Theatre and Dance. He has worked in both educational and professional theatre in multiple positions including Musical Director, Director, Conductor, Music Supervisor, Vocal Arranger and Accompanist. Kevin has worked with several other colleges including Old Dominion University, Christopher Newport University and Virginia Wesleyan. He has worked with various Regional Theatre companies including The Lost Colony (Manteo, NC), Virginia Stage Company (Norfolk, VA), The Little Theatre on the Square (Sullivan, IL) and The Hangar Theatre (Ithaca, NY). During his time at Millikin he has served as Musical Director / Conductor for many shows including The Secret Garden, Sugar, Lucky Stiff, Damn Yankees, My Favorite Year, Little Women, A Chorus Line, Spitfire Grill, Urinetown, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Spring Awakening.  Kevin has also served as director for Millikin’s productions of Ruthless and Cinderella.  He will return to the Little Theatre on the Square as Music Director for the 2015 summer season.

An advocate of New Musical development, he has collaborated with the Academy of New Musicals, Theatre Building Chicago, and Millikin University’s New Musicals initiative serving as musical director and music supervisor. Golden Gate (Spring 2011) was the first fully produced original musical on the Millikin University Main Stage season followed by String in Fall of 2013. Kevin is very proud to have been a part of that team.

Angela Fleddermann Miller

Assistant Professor - Millikin University

Angela Fleddermann Miller has worked with choreographers including David Parsons, David Dorfman, and Patrick Corbin, in addition to choreographing and performing her own work in New York City. While in New York she was a member of the Amy Marshall Dance Company and Peter Pucci Plus Dancers. She performed with Disney and The MUNY in St. Louis. Choreography credits include Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and The Music Man at the Great Plains Theatre Festival, and L’Histoire du Soldat and A Chorus Line at the University of Illinois. She has performed with David Parker and the Bang Group and with her own company, Trashcake Dance-Theatre. She has studied on scholarship at Steps on Broadway and at the Joffrey Ballet, Alvin Ailey, Martha Graham, and Paul Taylor Schools. She holds a BFA in Dance from Webster University and an MFA in Dance Choreography and Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Angela is currently Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance at Millikin University. Her most recent Millikin projects include the direction and choreography of Legally BlondePeter Pan, and Little Shop of Horrors.

Matt Albrecht is a lighting designer from Madison, WI. Matt has had the opportunity to work in theaters across the United States. Some of his design highlights include The Greeks (Madison Repertory Theatre), The Water Engine (University Theatre), Into the Woods (Houston's Center Stage Theatre), The Temperamentals (Celebration Theatre), and Annie (Madison Theatre Guild). After graduating from Millikin in May 2017 with a degree in Commercial Music, Evan relocated to Chicago to begin an apprenticeship at Steppenwolf Theatre Company.  During his time with the company he has worked as a QLab and console programmer on premier productions of The Minutes, The Burn, You Got Older, Doppelgänger: An International Farce, and the remount of Pass Over.  He has also kept his plate full doing freelance design work, as well as overhire work with Shattered Globe Theatre.  Evan is grateful to Millikin’s SOTAD for the opportunity to collaborate with old and new friends, and his family for their continued love, support, and understanding of a career path that needs frequent explaining.

Beth Creighton is an Adjunct Instructor of Music for the MU School of Music and School of Theatre and Dance.  She serves as the accompanist for a variety of classes, choral ensembles, and theatre productions.  In the past, Beth has served as Musical Director for the MU productions of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella (2012) and Little Shop of Horrors (2016).  She also teaches Piano Skills for Teachers – a course focused on providing music education majors with the keyboard skills they need in order to be successful in the classroom.  Beth is a proud Millikin alum, having graduated in 2001 with a degree in Vocal Music Education.

American baritone Ian Greenlaw’s compelling vocalism has brought him to center stage of opera companies and orchestras on both sides of the Atlantic. He has performed a wealth of roles with companies such as the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Teatro alla Scala, Chicago Opera Theater, Pittsburgh Opera, Kentucky Opera, Michigan Opera Theater, Opera Colorado, Central City Opera and Opera Theatre of St. Louis. A gifted concert artist, Ian Greenlaw has been a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Saint Louis Symphony. Dr. Greenlaw was on the roster of the Marilyn Horne Foundation, under whose auspices he performed his debut recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Concert Hall. Dr. Greenlaw is a vocal instructor at the Interlochen Center for the Arts during its summer vocal arts program and is currently Assistant Professor of Music at Millikin University, where he the director of Millikin’s Opera Theatre.

After graduation, she will be working as the Production Management Intern at Baltimore Center Stage.
