Position Title:    Content Marketing Strategist/Writer

Department:      Marketing & Media Relations         

FLSA Category:  Exempt          


Working Relationships:

Reports to:  Associate Marketing Director

Works Closely with:  Marketing & Media Relations Team, Admissions, University Clients

Directly Supervises:   N/A


Job Summary:  Millikin University seeks a Content Marketing Strategist/Writer to serve as the principal voice for Millikin communications and to shepherd marketing projects to completion. From web content to advertisements, recruitment materials to newsletters, the Content Marketing Strategist/Writer must write copy to reflect the University’s brand and to emphasize message consistency. The Content Marketing Strategist/Writer is also responsible for creating, implementing, and optimizing social media content to build brand awareness. A successful candidate enjoys writing, utilizing social media, and working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students across the university.

Primary Responsibilities:


Conceptualizes, writes, and edits content for a diverse array of University projects.   
Provides leadership in the development of creative campaigns and strategies for marketing to key target audiences.
Serves as primary social media expert by developing a social media strategy and monitoring and engaging with Millikin’s social media community.
Maintains consistency of brand voice throughout communication platforms.
Manages assigned marketing projects.
Plans and creates appropriate publications in accordance with specific budgetary requirements.
Meets clients to develop content.
Manages multiple projects simultaneously and delivers projects to meet deadlines.
Collaborates with the marketing and media relations team and across campus.
Additional job related duties as required by the supervisor.

Minimum Position Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in writing, communication, marketing or other related field, plus three years professional experience.
Excellent copy writing and interview skills.
Working knowledge in creating marketing campaigns.
A keen understanding of the role of current and emerging communication technology.
Business acumen.
Ability to operate under pressure and to meet deadlines.
Excellent computer skills.
Ability to work independently on projects and also collaborate as a strong team member.
Ability to deliver a high quality product in a fast-paced environment with a consistently heavy workload.
Knowledge of MLA and AP style writing guidelines.


Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working as a communicator in a higher education or sales/recruitment setting.

• Master’s degree, plus three years of professional experience.

  • Typically sitting at a desk or table
  • Occasionally lifting 25 lbs. or more
  • Hearing and visual acuity within normal range
