The Department of Behavioral Sciences at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Social Work commencing August 2019. Minimum qualifications for position are a Ph.D. in Social Work or Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) degree with professional clinical practice experience (due to the practice oriented nature of the program). LCSW credential is preferred but not required. 


The ideal candidate will have teaching and clinical practice experience and be able to teach courses related to social policy and welfare, social work theory and practice, human behavior, clinical intervention, addiction and child welfare. Courses currently offered in the major include: social work theory and practice; human behavior and the social environment; introduction to the helping professions; intervention with individuals, groups and families; mental health services; poverty; understanding public, professional and personal ethics; capstone internship; and advanced capstone internship


The Assistant Professor of Social Work will teach 12 credit hours of Human Service courses per semester (4 courses) from some of the above courses and other courses in the candidate’s area of specialty as appropriate. They will have a continued scholarship program, and engage in service to the university, as a professional and within the Decatur and Central Illinois communities. An emphasis on community engagement with students is expected. Applicants must be prepared to actively engage in the life of the Department including academic advising.  Strong preference will be given to candidates with a commitment to excellence in teaching and the ability to involve undergraduates in learning opportunities outside of the traditional classroom setting.
