Housing Selection Process
Incoming freshmen live in the residence halls. As a new student, you are responsible for completing a Housing Application. The Housing Application is only available online. Once you are admitted as a student and submit your $150 deposit fee, you will receive an email with the link to the housing application.
Deadlines for Housing Applications:
- Fall semester: May 1
- Spring semester: December 1
If you intend to live on campus for both semesters, you need file only one Housing Application prior to the fall term.

Housing Assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis: based on deposit date and housing application date, keeping in mind special needs and requests of applicants. We can never guarantee that a student will receive his/her first, second, or third choice of housing. Living Learning Community Applications will be evaluated based on application quality.
Assignments are usually distributed in June.
It is very important that students personally complete their own Housing Application because it inquires about habits (i.e. smoking, sleeping) of the applicant that the Office of Residence Life utilizes in assigning roommates. Inaccurate information can lead to undesirable environments.
New students may preference their roommate if they so desire. In order for a roommate request to be fulfilled, both parties must indicate their interest in living together on their application.
Once housing assignments have been made, changes may not be completed until after the formal waiting period, which is 10 days after the start of the term.
Important Dates for New Students:
- Housing Applications are available as soon as a student's deposit is received. You will receive a unique link to complete your housing application.
- Students will be generally notified of their housing and roommate information during the month of June.
Incoming freshmen live in the Residence Halls. All upperclassmen (sophomores, juniors, seniors, and transfer students) have the choice between The Woods at Millikin or fraternity and sorority housing. Seniors may petition to live off campus. Learn more about living off campus.
For students who are looking for a roommate to live within The Woods, there will be Leasing Parties throughout the Spring semester at The Woods.
Students may lease an apartment by contacting The Woods Office at 217-464-8635. Students with a GPA under 2.5 may be asked to meet with the Office of Residence Life before leasing at The Woods.
A note to upcoming senior students: Students who are senior standing by matriculation and credits (students entering their 7th Millikin semester and who have accrued at least 88 credits by the end of the spring 2018 semester) are eligible for off-campus housing. Off-campus petitions are due by April 1, 2018 for consideration. Petitions are available beginning in January 2018.
