I am a 2013 Millikin University graduate now working as a corporate Associate in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. My practice focuses on complex business transactions, including the representation of private equity sponsors and other clients in connection with mergers, acquisitions and divestitures and counseling clients on a variety of general corporate matters. Prior to joining Kirkland, I graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law, where I served as the Articles Development Editor of the Virginia Sports & Entertainment Law Journal. At Millikin, I studied Finance and participated in Moot Court as an attorney all 4 years, receiving the Most Outstanding Team award in 2011 and Runner-up Most Outstanding Attorney in 2012.

Millikin’s Philosophy Pre-Law Minor provides a great foundation for applying to, and succeeding in, law school. At the outset, the courses offer students an opportunity to gauge their interest in law through an introduction to the topics and types of reasoning a student will encounter in law school. As students progress through the courses, they will develop the critical reasoning and writing skills that are crucial to success in law school and learn many of the laws/concepts that they will encounter in their first year of law school. Moreover, just as the legal field blends together various disciplines with law, the Philosophy Pre-Law Minor complements any major on campus by rounding out a student’s skills in their other discipline (whether it be business, science, the performing arts or otherwise) with legal reasoning skills. While the LSAT and law school applications can be daunting, the Pre-Law program’s built-in network of professor, alumni, and peer mentors can be an invaluable resource as students navigate through LSAT preparation and the application process.  And because professors and students work closely together in the program, the advice is more personalized and effective than they might find elsewhere.  In sum, from start to finish Millikin’s Philosophy Pre-Law Minor starts a student’s legal career off on the right foot by introducing them to law, building their legal skills, and guiding them through the law school application process. My experience with program was invaluable, and I have no doubt that others will experience the same.
