A highlight of First Week activities at Millikin University is Day of Action. Day of Action is Millikin's opportunity to give back to the Decatur community by sending students into the neighborhoods for service opportunities.
This year, Millikin teamed up with the United Way of Decatur and Mid-Illinois to engage in service work on Aug. 21-22. Students provided service work at 20 different sites including: Dennis Lab School, Blessingdale's Thrift Store, Special Olympics at Spare Time Lanes, Tanglewood Village, Millikin Homestead and Decatur Fire Station #2.
Millikin students were among 661 volunteers giving 1,600-plus hours of community service work.
United Way Campaign Co-Chairwoman Stacey Young said the mission of the United Way is to improve the community through giving, advocating and volunteering. "We are going to make a difference through the agencies we support," Young said.
