Dear Big Blue Students:

In just over a month, we will welcome you back to campus for the 2021 fall semester! Faculty and staff are diligently planning for our return to in-person learning, and we expect to have a full schedule of co-curricular and athletic events. We are excited about having you all back!

In order for us to be able to operate as we have prior to the pandemic, I am urging all of our students to get vaccinated before returning to campus. The only certain way to know that you are protected from the virus and any of the known variants is to be fully vaccinated. The availability of the vaccine is no longer limited, and individuals can find a local site where the vaccine can be administered without significant delay, including on-campus vaccination clinics to be held at the beginning of the semester. Vaccination is easy, free and a very effective way to ensure that we don't have to go through what we have experienced for the past 16 months again.

In order to return to more normal operations this fall, we are asking all of you to share your vaccination status with us. Prior to the start of classes, go to my.millikin.edu, log in with your username and password and then type "Upload Immunizations" into the search bar. Once you do that, click on the corresponding icon and follow the instructions that will be provided. Students who have been fully vaccinated will not have to wear face coverings on campus nor will they be subject to COVID-19 testing. They will also not have to move to quarantine or isolation if they come into close contact with someone who tests positive for any of the variants of the coronavirus. If you would like to request an exemption from vaccination due to a sincerely held religious belief or medical issue, please contact the Office of Student Affairs at 217.424.6395 or stdev@millikin.edu.

All non-vaccinated students will be required to:

  • Test for COVID-19 once a week, with the first test conducted upon arrival to campus or within 72 hours prior to arrival. Millikin offers SHIELD rapid, saliva-based testing free of charge:
    • Go to https://shieldilportal.pointnclick.com and enter the Student Agency Code: mlkn-no1kyw19 to create an account on the SHIELD portal. Students should use their Millikin email address and campus address to enroll.
    • After submission, students will receive a verification code via text and email to confirm their identity.
    • After verification, students may schedule time to test.
    • Testing requires a photo ID and the appointment QR code. Individuals must refrain from eating or putting any substance in their mouth within 60 minutes of the test.
    • Test results are posted in the SHIELD portal after lab results are complete.
  • Wear face coverings while indoors when using common spaces (e.g., hallways where others travel, conference rooms, other meeting rooms, classrooms, breakrooms, etc.).
  • Maintain at least six feet of social distancing wherever possible.

We will continue to follow Macon County Health Department (MCHD) and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) guidance as we monitor the pandemic conditions. Please view the Campus Safety Plan for students here. We look forward to enjoying a full fall semester with you on campus, and the best way to ensure our success is for you to be fully vaccinated before you return.

Thank you for doing your part to get Millikin "Back to Blue"!
