Dear Student,

Millikin University hopes you are looking forward to beginning the fall semester as much as we are. We want you to know we hear you. Many of you have expressed excitement and/or questions about returning to campus this fall. To that end, below are some important updates and requests for you to read and respond to in the coming days before the semester begins.

Important Updates for the Fall 2020 Semester
As previously announced, Millikin’s campus will be fully open and operational this fall 2020 semester. Classes are set to begin August 24, 2020, in accordance with the revised academic calendar. Classes will be delivered using a variety of methods including in-person, online-only and hybrid formats. Methods of delivery will appear on student schedules, which are anticipated to be finalized and viewable by mid-August. Updates and changes to course schedules are being made daily. Once courses have been finalized, students will be notified.

Students will return to Millikin’s campus in a tiered fashion according to a coordinated move-in schedule designed by Millikin University Campus Life and The Woods Apartments.

Safety precautions are being taken to help ensure a safe environment for students and learning. Millikin has partnered with CVS to assist with COVID-19 testing. Testing of students will be consistent with our testing criteria. Low-density models are being used in Millikin classrooms as well as in residential facilities.

All orientation programming, including New Student Welcome Week as well as the EDGE Program, will be almost exclusively virtual.

Athletic competitions and championships for the fall semester have been postponed and will be rescheduled for the spring semester. Fall sport athletes will be given opportunities to engage in team activities, practice and strength/conditioning workouts this fall.

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE TO CAMPUS – We need your help.

Upon returning to Millikin, all on-campus residential students will be asked to “stay in place” on campus as much as possible for the first 14 days to help ensure safe conditions and reduce the spread of COVID-19. A strict “no visitor” policy has been established for our residential facilities, and an evening curfew will be implemented. Following the completion of this 14-day period, students will be expected to abide by the standards and protocols put forth in the Campus Safety Plan for Students at all times.

If students have significant health or other issues preventing participation in on-campus classrooms, please contact me, Vice President of Student Affairs Raphaella Prange at 217.424.6395 or via email at rprange@millikin.edu to discuss the possibility of online-only instruction from your campus residence or permanent address. Please note that requests for a remote accommodation do not guarantee approval. Also note, financial aid would likely need to be adjusted for any student studying remotely.

Look for these and many more updates about the fall 2020 semester at millikin.edu/covid19.

Sincerely,

Raphaella Prange
