Summer Project exposes Millikin student to graduate-level research

During the summer months, most students say that time flies. Elexis Richardson, a Millikin University junior from Carbondale, Ill., has a different take on that popular phrase as she performs her summer research project for the Leighty Science Scholars Program.

Commencement has a very special and symbolic significance. By definition, it means initiation, inception, or a time when something begins, and for the Millikin University graduating Class of 2021, it meant taking the next step.

One of the most challenging and unique academic years at Millikin University is coming to a close. Millikin and other institutions of higher learning were compelled to change almost everything they do because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and now the spring 2021 semester has wrapped up and commencement is on the horizon.

Student's love for community leads to decision to stay local

While growing up in Mt. Zion, Ill., just about 20 minutes away from Millikin University's campus, Gracey Reynolds knew at an early age that she wanted to become a teacher. Throughout her time in junior high and high school, she was exploring her options, but as college drew closer, she felt a calling in her heart to pursue her passion for teaching.
