Gender and Politics class helps raise proceeds for Growing Strong Sexual Assault Center

Perhaps one of the best quotes on empathy is "You can't understand someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes." That saying was put into effect on Saturday, Dec. 1 as Millikin University hosted its first "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event to raise awareness about sexual assault and gender-based violence.

Annual event brings hunger and homelessness awareness to local community

Cold and wintry conditions couldn't keep a group of Millikin University students from bringing awareness about homelessness to the local community as Millikin's Human Service Connection and the Macon County Continuum of Care hosted its 9th annual Box City event on Nov. 9.

Passion for helping others drives Millikin nursing major

Nick Cravatta is a second semester junior nursing major at Millikin University. The Sullivan, Ill., native went to Lakeland Community College for the first two years of his college career and then searched for a four-year school to transfer to.

Though Cravatta applied to multiple colleges, once he visited Millikin's campus he knew that the Big Blue community was the place for him.

Composing Teams that are Out of this World

Mission to Mars will challenge the frontiers of human collaboration as the crew lives and works in an extreme environment including prolonged isolation and confinement for the two-and-a-half year journey. Anna Harmon, a senior biology and pre-occupational therapy major who's planning to get a master's in registered occupational therapy, gives Millikin University credit for helping her realize her full potential. "My biggest takeaway from Millikin is that I'm capable of so much more than I thought I was," said the Buffalo Grove, Ill., native.

MU student organizations, athletics, faculty and staff come together to support community

Millikin University has had a long tradition of success when it comes to collecting food items to support the annual WSOY Community Food Drive in Decatur, Ill. The Food Drive helps as many food banks as possible by encouraging the local community to give canned non-perishable goods or monetary donations. Last year, over 1.52 million pounds of food was collected.
